The 'garantía' system is the biggest hurdle for renting. Here are 3 proven strategies for foreigners.

Finding an apartment in Buenos Aires is easy; renting one legally is hard. The standard requirement is a 'garantía propietaria'. Obviously, most foreigners don't have this.

1. Seguro de Caución (Finaer)

Companies like Finaer act as your guarantor for a fee. Many landlords now accept this in place of a property warranty. You will need to show proof of income.

3. Paying Upfront

Cash is king. If you offer to pay 6 or 12 months of rent in advance in dollars, many landlords will waive the garantía requirement.
